Dorma $6.5m Burj Dubai deal

Germany s Dorma has received an order worth $6.5m to supply door accessories to the Burj Dubai tower. Emaar Properties is the client. The agreement calls for the supply of a range of items including door closers, panic exit devices and lever handles.


MotorCity on display at Autosport

Dubai-based Union Properties is taking its MotorCity project to Autosport International, a major exhibition for motor sport being held in the UK. UP's stand will have a model of the themed development on show. MotorCity has a Formula One theme park, a business park, and two residential areas.


Al Naboodah, Al Barari contract

The local Al Naboodah Engineering Services has won a contract for infrastructure works in the initial phase of Al Barari, a $1.8bn residential development at Nad Al Sheba in Dubai. Al Barari Development Company is the client. The contract, the value of which was not disclosed, covers the building of roads, a high voltage electrical network, irrigation, drainage and sewerage systems, waterways and lakes.


Cansult wins CBC Tower contract

Canada-based Aakar Developers has appointed Cansult as design and project management consultants for its $55.5m Canada Business Centre Tower project at Dubai s Business Bay. CBC Tower has 19 floors of office space, conference rooms and 7,500 sqft of retail area. Amenities include a gymnasium, a rooftop pool, food courts and a shopping boulevard. It is due for completion in 2008.


Dubai Properties wins award for BB

Dubai Properties has been voted best commercial developer in the UAE at the Islamic Real Estate Finance ME Awards 2006. The developer won the award for its $30m Business Bay project. The awards were held as part of the Islamic Real Estate Finance Forum, organised by the Islamic Conference Group.


Tenants given eviction notice

More than 300 families living in Nakheel s The Gardens at Jebel Ali are being evicted to make way for a new road, Gulf News reported. Twelve buildings could be demolished for the road, the route of which has not been finalised, management said in a notice to affected tenants.


Zelan $68m Tecom tower deal

Zelan Contracting has won a construction contract worth $86m for the 45-storey Sidra Tower in the Dubai Technology, Electronics, Commerce and Media Zone, Gulf News reported. The mixed use residential and commercial project is a private venture by the chairman of Abu Dhabi-based Ali and Sons, Ali bin Khalfan Muttawa Al Dhahry, the report said. It is due for completion in December 2008.


Aqaar to award Ajman 1 deal

Aqaar, the Ajman based real estate and property development company, will award the $20m contract for enabling works on its Ajman 1 project this month, with the appointment of the main contractor scheduled before the end of March. Superstructure construction of phase one of the 720,000 sqft project will get off the ground in H2.


Queues at Dubai rent office

The Dubai Rent Committee office was packed with hundreds of residents yesterday following the recent announcement of the city s new 7% rent cap, reported Gulf News. Many tenants sought to challenge rental hikes by landlords and letting agents. Officials also put the rush down to the fact that the office was closed over the Eid and New Year holidays.


Dubai rent cap crackdown

Under the new 7% Dubai rent cap, landlords who increased rental rates last year cannot make additional hikes this year, reported Gulf News. In addition, tenants who signed their first property contract last year will not face any rental increase this year. Tenants whose contracts expired on January 1 and who signed an increased rental contract last year are entitled to a reduction if their rent was raised in 2006.


Edara wins SkyCourts deal

Edara has been commissioned to project manage the National Bonds SkyCourts real estate development at Dubailand. Edara will provide its services right through the construction phases until handover which is scheduled for H1 2009. SkyCourts will offer more than 2,300 apartments across six residential towers.


Gardens, eviction fight

Residents living in The Gardens development in Jebel Ali have launched a campaign to protest against possible eviction later this year, reported Gulf News. It was reported at the end of December that a number of buildings at the Nakheel built development could be torn down to make way for a new highway or, possibly, a metro station. It is feared over 300 families may need to find new accommodation.
